Plant of the Week – Aster

This week I worked on a job site in Speedway.  The home owners have created a stunning garden around their home, with a little help from us.  Life recently threw them a curve ball in the shape of two Miniature Dachshund puppies.  Wonderful, cute and destructive, this eight legged stampede loved to run through their gardens and leave a Godzilla sized path of puppy ruin in their wake.  This posed a threat to their life’s balance!  They were caught between their two loves.  Thankfully with our help we were able to remedy the situation and fix up their yard, so both puppy and plant alike could flourish(We will feature this yard at a future date for those interested)!  This story is what inspires this weeks Plant of the Week.  A plant which symbolizes love and patience, something our clients in Speedway certainly have in abundance.  This weeks plant is the Aster!Aster Bloom

The Aster is a splendid plant that provides ample color in the Fall.  Coming in shades of red, pink, purple and white the Aster brings a cool color pallet to your landscape, that wonderfully contrasts the warmer fall colors.  Sporting a fairly large variety of sizes Asters can be used in many different landscape situations.  Provide this plant with full sun, loamy soils and cooler temperatures and they will explode with blooms.  The blooms will attract butterflies and honeybees, which of course I am a huge supporter of protecting.  Great for perennial borders, pots or as accents I definitely recommend this to anyone with a full sun landscape.Aster
