Plant of the Week – Bee Balm

It is hard to believe the first week of August is already past us!  The Indiana State Fair began this weekend, which I highly recommend going to, and I can not wait to get there!  When the State Fair arrives I always begin to think about fall (20 years worth of summer breaks will do that).  Late summer and fall has some wonderful flowering opportunities, many of which are not fully appreciated in my opinion.  One of those perennials is Bee Balm, this weeks Plant of the Week!Bee Balm Bloom

Immense blooming and a soothing aroma are among the many perks that make Bee Balm a must have in any full sun garden.  Their showy flowers resemble a firework and  attract hummingbirds, butterflies and honeybees.  Maintenance is minimal during the year and blooming can be prolonged if the plant is dead headed(snipping off the old blooms).  Bee Balm flowers are great for vases, and can even be used as a garnish or in tea.  A wonderful addition to a flower border or a herb garden this wonderful plant will not disappoint you in the least!

Think Bee Balm sounds as good as we do?  Check out these websites here and here and here to read more about this sun loving perennial.
