Plant of the Week – Blanket Flower

We had a week without rain!  After receiving 15+ inches of precipitation this past month everyone at Eagleson Landscape Co. is VERY done with rain(though secretly I still love thunderstorms, don’t tell the others).  I thought I would talk about a bright sun loving perennial this week to brighten up the mood a little.  Let’s talk about Gaillardia, or the blanket flower!Blanket Flower Mass

The Blanket Flower originates from the central United States and is now found nearly everywhere across the nation and for good reason.  This perennial is easy to grow and resilient, with beautiful long lasting blooms.  These guys can survive droughts very well and require little maintenance.  Just deadhead the old flowers to promote a longer blooming period!  Otherwise put them in full sun with well drained soils and they will be perfectly happy in your landscape!  Blanket flowers have beautiful, bright, long lasting blooms that have oranges, yellows and reds. Great for butterfly gardens and stunning in a mass or “blanketing” a large area.  You will love this plant and will get many years of joy from them in your garden.
