Plant of the Week – Hibiscus

This week I have had a strong desire to go to the beach.  I want the sand between my toes, the sun on my skin and a cold drink in my hand.  Tropics on the brain, I think we should talk about a plant that will make you feel like you are at the beach and make your home a vacation destination!  This week’s Plant of the Week is Hibiscus moscheutos or the Rose Mallow!

A bright, bold and bodacious plant, the hibiscus will be a stunner in your garden.  Flower colors come in pinks, reds and whites and bloom in mid to late summer covering the plant for some great added color during the warmer months.  Ranging from four to six feet in height, you will love to sit outside and enjoy the ambiance this perennial will bring.  Best grown in moist soils with full sun, this plant is great along a river bank, a pond or in a wetland area, but can be planted anywhere when suitable watering is provided.Hibiscus
