Plant of the Week – Lungwort

I believe Spring may have finally sprung this week!  I want to continue introducing you to beautiful plants for you landscape to feed on all of our Spring fever.  This week I received a request to talk about more flowering plants that tolerate shade.  I do not want to let anyone down, so this weeks Plant of the Week is a flowering perennial and a shade lover!  Sporting a bit of an unsavory name, but past the name a wonderful perennial, this week we will discuss Pulmonaria or Lungwort.

Best grown in shady moist areas of a yard, Lungwort is a great perennial to put under trees with thick canopies, even black walnut!  Lungwort are easy going, preferring moist environments but also tolerating dry conditions as long as plenty of shade is presented to them.  Growing to about 12 inches and having a clumping habit makes this a great filler plant for areas you have had difficulty growing other plants.  Lungwort will dazzle you with its blooms and unique spotted foliage throughout the year.  Blooms are either blue, white or pink and add a burst of early season color to your landscape.  A life savor for your difficult to manage yard!  Why not give it a try?!

A real trooper and stunner for your tough landscape environment!  Do not let its name deter you!  Lungwort is a fantastic plant and one you will appreciate from day one in your landscape!  Read more about Lungwort here and here!
