Project Highlight: The Lifecycle of Landscape Designs

Project Highlight | Lifecycle Landscape Designs

Landscape designs are not static—they are scenes of change and growth. Over the 40 years that one of our Indianapolis clients has lived in their home, their backyard has gone from sunny to overgrown and shaded, then nature moved them back to square one with full sun. We have worked with these clients for 10 years, and started helping with their landscape when their backyard was shaded by woods, and therefore could not grow grass.

We first supplied their yard with shade-loving plants, edging the beds with natural stone. Using curving shapes, and of course rough stone, the look of their landscape matched the rustic style of their home.

They also had us build a pond near their back deck with their kids in mind. We designed it to have  two basins, one flowing down in a waterfall into the other. Four years ago, due to disuse and disrepair, we rebuilt the pond with similar stone to those found in their yard. The lovely water feature can house fish and is now enjoyed by their grandchildren.

What precipitated our latest project was the natural deforestation of our clients’ backyard. Between the emerald ash boor and the heavy storm winds of the past few years, their trees had all fallen down and exposed their backyard to full sun. Because of that, we had to move plants to different locations and needed to add more sun-loving plants. Grass also grew in, so we repurposed stone found in the very back of their yard to rebuild the edging around their beds to keep the grass from encroaching into them.

We had the privilege to move these clients’ yard through the lifecycle of a landscape. Throughout the years, we were able to accommodate each change in their yard and their needs. Questions about this project? Send us an email or give us a call at (317) 997-4803.
